A massive storm that will spread snow and ice along a 1,500-mile-long zone from vast portions of the Plains and Mississippi Valley to many areas of the Appalachians and the Atlantic coast, has gotten me thinking about winter and winter drawing activities with students. As kids head back to school after the long winter break, thoughts of the holidays will affect many students. Some will be homesick for winter vacation, and others will think of their families far away. Have students draw out their idea of the perfect snow day and relive their winter memories – real or imagined. For those kids in Florida who have not yet experienced snow, drawing a winter scene is one way to research the winter season and enjoy an imaginary snow day.
